Obsession

Obsession is a 2025 American supernatural horror film written, directed, and edited by Curry Barker in his theatrical feature debut. Produced by Blumhouse Productions, Capstone Studios, Tea Shop Productions, and Under the Shell, the film stars Michael Johnston, Inde Navarrette, Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter.

The story follows Bear, a shy music store employee who secretly harbors feelings for his best friend, Nikki. After obtaining a mysterious supernatural object known as the One Wish Willow, he wishes for Nikki to fall in love with him. However, the seemingly innocent wish transforms into a terrifying nightmare as Nikki develops an uncontrollable obsession, unleashing a series of violent and horrifying events that force Bear to confront the devastating consequences of tampering with fate.

Made on a micro-budget of just $750,000, Obsession premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where it generated significant buzz and was acquired by Focus Features for a record $14–15 million, becoming the highest-priced genre acquisition in TIFF history. The film received a wide theatrical release in the United States on May 15, 2026.

The film became one of 2026’s biggest box office surprises, earning an impressive $370 million worldwide against its modest production budget. It grossed $234 million in North America and $136 million internationally, making it Focus Features’ highest-grossing film of all time and one of the year’s most profitable horror releases.

Critically, Obsession received widespread acclaim for its inventive blend of psychological horror, dark comedy, and supernatural suspense. Critics particularly praised Inde Navarrette’s chilling performance, Curry Barker’s confident direction, and the film’s unsettling atmosphere. Its remarkable commercial success established Barker as one of horror’s most promising new filmmakers and cemented Obsession as one of the standout horror films of 2026.
